Feedback wanted on concepts for design of new City Hall
In response to public feedback, the City Council has authorized work with ARC Architects to create six design concepts on two potential sites for Carnation’s new city hall. In the linked PDF, you’ll find conceptual renderings for comment and feedback. The Design Detail & Task Team wants to hear from you about each of the six concepts. What things do you like about each? What things do you dislike about each? Is there some combination of ideas from multiple renderings that you think would work better together? Now is your opportunity to weigh in on what you think Carnation’s future City Hall should look like.

Seattle Public Utilities Message to the Residents of Carnation
To the Residents of Carnation,
Seattle Public Utilities looks forward to attending the City of Carnation’s community meeting on Monday, August 3, when we will share what we know about the Tolt Dam Warning System’s false alarm that sounded for almost 40 minutes on Tuesday.
We sincerely apologize for the confusion and fear caused by the false alarm. We will address your concerns and share with you what information we have as to what happened.
On Tuesday, when we determined within a few minutes that there was no breach of the Tolt Dam, staff attempted to disable the alarm but the computer system would not allow it. It took a few tries before the alarm stopped sounding.
We have heard from many of you in the community, upset and frustrated by what you experienced.
At the meeting, you will hear from us about the steps we are taking to prevent something like this from happening again. We will also talk about how we are working with our partner agencies like the City of Carnation to improve communications.
Your safety and wellbeing are of the highest priority to us. Dam safety monitoring was never interrupted during the incident and we continue to monitor the dam 24/7, using technology such as cameras and sensors installed along the Tolt Dam.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Sincerely,
Seattle Public Utilities

Come and Celebrate Mr. Fred's Day on February 15th
In January, the City of Carnation lost a great champion with the passing of Councilmember Fred Bereswill. He loved Carnation and gave freely of his time and talents to make Carnation a better place. To celebrate his contributions, the Carnation City Council has proclaimed February 16th as Mr. Fred’s Day in memory of Councilmember Bereswill.
Please join us on Thursday, February 15th from 3:30pm to 5:30 pm at City Hall to celebrate Mr. Fred. We will have cake and punch and the Fred Bereswill Day Proclamation will be read at 4:30pm. Guests are welcome to say a few words about Fred that will be recorded (if you wish) and aired on Valley Radio 103.1 Carnation Currents. We hope to see you there.

Carnation City Manager Ken Carter passes away
Carnation City Manager Ken Carter passed away on Tuesday, March 24, after a year-long battle with cancer. As City Manager from November 2009 until his death in 2015, Mr. Carter's experienced leadership and sensible practicality successfully guided the City through the difficult fiscal circumstances of the recent economic recession. He cared deeply for the Carnation community, and was greatly respected by citizens, City Councilmembers and City Staff alike. He will be very much missed.
