New Cell Phone Driving Law - Effective June 10, 2010
TEXTING & DRIVING – A COSTLY HABIT
NO LONGER A SECONDARY OFFENSE LAW
Effective June 10, 2010, talking on a cell phone, while holding it to the ear when driving, will be a PRIMARY OFFENSE – Prior to the enactment of this new law, Law Enforcement had to have other legitimate means for stopping a vehicle and issuing a ticket for talking on a cell phone while driving. As mandated by the new law signed by Governor Gregoire on March 25th, the cost of this citation will be $124…a costly price to pay! So, PLEASE help us spread the word and alert your friends and neighbors.
For those of you not already practicing the safer use of a headset or other hands-free device, we encourage you to begin doing so now. This has been a much debated issue for a few years now and should come as no surprise to anyone. As we always strive to put the safety of our citizens first, so will we strive to readily enforce this new law.
And, please remember, this new law also means no texting while driving – in many ways an even more dangerous behavior. So, come June 10, 2010, it will be a primary offense not only for holding a cell phone to your ear while driving but also for reading, writing or sending text messages.
So remember, effective June 10, 2010, police can and will immediately pull over someone for texting or talking on a cell phone without a headset. The result will be the issuance of a ticket in the amount of $124. Don’t get caught making this costly AND dangerous mistake.
