City awarded grant to rebuild Stossel Avenue

Carnation will rebuild Stossel Avenue in 2008 with $850,000 grant

The State Transportation Improvement Board recently awarded the City of Carnation a $850,000 grant to reconstruct Stossel Avenue between Blanche and Entwistle Streets.  The total project cost is $1,077,000.  The City will contribute $227,000 to the project.

Stossel is a heavily used street for both traffic and pedestrians.  It is also a main school buse route.  The existing road is very narrow and the pavement is failing in numerous areas.  It also lacks sidewalks.  The project will widen the road, add a parking strip, sidewalk, curbs and gutters, and street lighting.

The City plans to have the project under construction this coming summer.  In addition to the Stossel Avenue project, the City also has grant funding to rebuild Blanche Street and to make pedestrian safety improvements along Tolt Avenue.  Construction of those projects will begin in the spring.
